How to offer a free item?

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to offer a free item if a customer spends over a certain amount.
The promo is basically, a customer can choose to receive $5 off OR receive a free side dish of their choice if they spend over $30 on their meal.
I've set up the $5 discount all ok, but I can't find anywhere, where I can set up adding a free item as a choice. I have used this before on Shopify with no problems, but I just can't see it anywhere within Square.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @niccroad , I don't think there is a way to make an item automatically adjust to be free if you meet certain conditions. I think you may need to manually "comp" the item once you add it. Maybe another seller who works with Restaurants can offer a better solution for you.

Do you offer a certain Item for Free when a customer does a Qualifying purchase?

For Example - we do the buy 12 large candles get 1 free and it is automatically accounted for when the items are purchased.  The one free candle must come from the same type (category ) of candle that were purchased.

What we did was since our candles are $20.99 per jar when a person buys 12 of the 28oz jars the 13th one has a $ discount of $20.99, making the 13th one free.  The only thing I do not like about it, is it is not the 13th candle that is free but the first candle in Alphabetical order no matter when it is scanned.   So then we need to scan through the receipt to make sure it is included before proceeding to charge the order so we do not have to do a refund.  This has happened 1 or 2 times.  We also have a $ discount of $20.99 incase someone buys the 12 candles over a time frame that we can manually give the free candle in a Discount.

Scroll to Minimum Spend Requirement..... I have not played with that Discount but sounds like what you may want.
