How to add a category to an item that was already purchased?

So I forgot to add a category to an item (Thin Mints).... we did have some sales with Thin Mints and then I added the category “Cookies” to the item “Thin Mints”.... but in my item report, I see 2 items: Thin Mints (with a blank category) and Thin Mints (with the “Cookies” category)..... how do I combine (or change the blank category of the first Thin Mint sales to now show up with the “Cookies” category)?

There isn't a way to change a past sale.  If it was a cash sale you can refund it and sell it under the correct item, if it was a credit card sale there isn't anything you can do to edit old transactions.

Darn... the sale was via credit card... so I guess I’m out of luck

Thanks for the reply, that's a bummer.  Does anyone know if anything has changed with this lately?

No update at the moment @themoose, items that have already been sold can't be added to a category retroactively.
