Did anyone change their business name and was denied credit card payments?

I recently did a legal business name change and was told to deactivate my old account where my business was able to except credit card payments. When I created a new account under the new business name with the same EIN I was denied credit card payments but only able to except cash payments.

HI @Bruton72 A few years ago, we did a legal business name change with our state’s Secretary of State.  I’m not sure who told you or why you were told to deactivate your old account, because unless something changed that was not great advice.  In fact, it might have been horrible advice because now it looks like two different companies are trying to use the same EIN which is the first sign of identity theft.

You are going to have to get on the phone with Square Customer Success.  Most likely the Square algorithms see the conflict of two different businesses with the same EIN, which is a definite red flag with the federal government.  You’ll probably need to go through a verification process with Square to show the name change, send in documents, etc. And, if you do have a choice to reactivate your old account and simply change the name (like I did), the Customer Success Team should be able to help you out.

Good luck!
