Can I swipe Chip Cards with the magstripe reader?
Should the magstripe reader be able to accept the cards that have a chip in it?

Hey @acts2382121, thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the seller community! 👋🏻
This is a great question. If the chip card that you're presented with also has a magstripe on the back of the card, you'll be able to use the Square magstripe reader to complete the payment. Note: banks will hold you liable for any fraudulent chip card payments completed with a magstripe reader. See VanKalkerFarms's post for more information.
We currently offer three different readers, which you can learn more about in our Support Center.
I realize that there is a lot to consider when getting started; please don't hesitate to reply with any other questions about choosing the appropriate hardware. We're happy to help! 🙂

@tammymoon - While I can't offer an exact timeframe for you, it will be as long as credit card companies plan to include the stripe on their cards. I don't imagine they'll be phased out completely anytime soon.
