Are you getting random receipts from customers transactions with other vendors?

We randomly get an email card transaction receipt from a transaction that one of previous customers have processed with another Square vendor. Even some of employees that don't use Square but get copies of transactions get the random receipts. Today I just got a receipt copy from a customer that did business with us 3-4 months ago and I got a copy of their receipt from getting coffee.

This seems like a glitch in the Square system that could result in some privacy issues with users. Is anyone else have this occur? I can't find a phone number to report this to anyone at Square.

@Ken3, when your customers finish a transaction with you, they're prompted to put in their email address to receive a receipt. One thing I've seen before is that the seller will put in their own email address instead of asking the customer to enter it. Once an email is entered for a transaction, that email address is associated with that card. So the next time the customer shops at a Square seller, the receipt is automatically sent by mistake to your email instead of to the cardholder.

You're right that this can be a sticky situation, and that privacy concerns come into play. No worries though, we can fix it! If you think this might have happened, you can reach out to our support team to help unlink your email address from all your customers' cards. You can also unlink it yourself anytime by clicking on "Not Your Receipt?" at the bottom of the Square receipt and following the steps it walks you through.

Hopefully this helps explain what's going on, but let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

I think we may need to talk. We don't have a terminal, we only use the Virtual Terminal or we send the customer a invoice via email. When we complete a transaction through the virtual terminal we can send a copy to the customer and we can send a copy of the invoice to the our admin for the receipt. If Square is keeping the association of the email to where we send receipts permanently associated with that credit card, I think there may be a problem you want to fix. That would mean that every Square vender could send a copy of a receipt to themselves and then track all the purchases a customer makes on their credit card through Square.

I hope I am wrong but this is what it appears is happening. We may have stumbled on this but this could be potentially for bad purposes.

I see what you mean, @Ken3. Can you please give our Support Team a call? (Go through the contact flow here if you need to get your customer code.) I want to make sure we understand how you're using Virtual Terminal so that we can take care of the issue. Thank you!
