Hi all!
I have a coffee shop and almost all of our sales are carry out and do NOT require sales tax. I also have creative baristas and bakers that are constantly coming up with new menu items which means I'm constantly adding new items to my POS.
Currently, Square's default is "charge tax unless there's a rule that says not to".
That puts the burden on me to:
1 - Find extra time in my life to create the menu item and then use the rules to exclude them from tax
2 - Remember to add the items to the rules... I just had a barista ask if we're charging sales tax on a new muffin. I jumped on to add it to the rule and found 11 menu items that I'd forgotten to exclude... My guests have been paying sales tax on those items when they don't need to.
I would LOVE to have the ability to select the default that best reflects my business. (collect tax or not collect tax) Rules would then apply to the exceptions.
Carry out businesses like mine would GREATLY appreciate it! (Literally like <5% of my menu items require tax.)
