Customer Directory: collect custom fields like email, name, phone
We are a club and have annual memberships and we'd love to use Square to manage our membership directory. I've added custom fields to reflect membership numbers (state and national) but we would KILL to have these fields filled in by the customer.
From the sounds of it the check out page cannot be altered. Customer Note to Seller is a workaround but doesn't automatically update the customer's profile. Item modifiers would be better than the note I think (though I haven't experimented) but it still doesn't update to the customer directory.
I don't think square will even automatically send a marketing email (a paid feature I believe) after purchase with a form to fill in this information.
We'd also kill to have custom fields searchable. It's disappointing that this has been a request by many for years and it hasn't happened.
We're using customer director reports and sales reports to manage our membership. It's awesome to have custom fields, but equally not awesome that a customer can't fill in more information than name, phone number, address, and birth date. Or can they?

@mfa ;
I have a work around for you how to get the data that the Customer can fill in later. It is NOT ideal because it is not through Square, and your other concerns of a Searchable Fields list may not work either.
So follow along and maybe test this for yourself.
**** The only thing I am not sure of is if you import this if it deletes or adds on to your current contacts***
Square Dashboard > Customers > Download the Template of your Customers Directory or your customers directory or Both. Play it safe.
Open this CSV as a Google sheet. Create a Form that would be filled in and Populates a Spreadsheet in the same way the Customer Template is. Once you do this test it out on your self make sure the data enters the sheet corectly and is formatted as per Squares customer settings. Test uploading your Data or Elmer Fuds to Your Square Dirctory. If this all looks Good and is working, go back to your form and email a Link to yourself. Copy the Link.
Now go to either:
https://www.qr-code-generator.com/
https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/
Choose WWW or URL for the type of QR code to make. And this will make a QR code that you can print out next to your Point of Sale. People can scan with their phone, that then takes them to your form to fill out whenever is convienent for them. When they fill out the form, the response will show up in your Forms Response Sheet. This sheet can then be imported into Square Contacts or attached to the bottom of your contacts csv file.
I have been playing around with this myself and Have the form setup and working just have not tried uploading yet or going live with this. I was going to do this to add people to my Loyalty program through Square but their loyalty program would do unexpected things the way I wanted it to work.
