Customers are using it more and more.  We ask if they can tap it if we see the indicator on the card. Itโ€™s much faster and they seem to like the convenience as well

Thanks @perks1207. It's easy to miss that symbol on the card, I think!

I bought the new square stand and clients do A LOT of Apple Pay (contactless) and contactless card. Very little do chip and even less swipe.

Most of our customers are using the tap feature (although we haven't tried it on our phone yet, just the register). We were having some connectivity issues on Saturday and I realized how many people use the tap.

So i just ran the stats for 2022 as i had a feeling that Tap was 99% of our payments but just wanted to check.

So for 2022

Card Tapped (Contactless) 28,019 97.22%
Card Inserted (Chip) 801 2.78%
Card Swiped 1

So yeah we Australians love a good tap.
I would say a few of the inserts are because the tap has stopped working on their cards.

So we have phones tap, cards tap, watches tap and one of the banks even has their own ring that can tap.

About 27% off our CC transactions this year have been contactless. I would say more tapping over Apple Pay. Myself, I LOVE Apple Pay and use it with my watch to not have to dig out my wallet. A lot of times when I leave the house I just have my phone, key fob and ID at this point. It makes life so much more simple!

Yes! Our customers love being able to tap their phone/watch or card. We have even been teaching more people about how to use their contactless card if they never have before! They are always so impressed. And since we have the screen that confuses people how to put their card in correctly, it's nice having the contactless option.

Some of my customers do not know they can just tap their cards, I prefer it to speed things up since when they tap their Card or Phone they do not have to sign even when their amount is over the $25 minimum I have set for a signature.  If they insert their card with Chip it asks for signature over the $25 charge.  Not sure why this is but, this is how it works for us.
One day I had a group of younger people in my store, and it turned in to a competition who could pay the with the newest form of payment.

Sales were:

1) Cash

2) Credit Card - Swipe

3) was Chip Credit Card

4) was a Tapped Credit Card

5) was a cell Phone Tap

in my opinion #6 wins

#6) used his Watch to Tap

Not sure if the Cell or Watch was Apple or Android but I liked the little friendly competition between the friends.

That's great - 'watch-to-tap' is new to me! It sounds like can be incredibly convenient as @Abigails_stl mentioned above!

Here in the UK since they introduces contactless payments we noticed a increase in card payments. Now they increased the cap to ยฃ100 its almost 80% card and everyone now pays contactless with there card, phone or smart watch

Tapped made up 2/3rds of this years CC transactions so far.

The one improvement is I wish the new style Square Stands had a spot for the customer to tap top center on the back of the stand.  We never turn the stand around so they have to hand it to us and tap and then it is the awkward interchange to give it back because it was 3/4 of a second that I had the card.  If there was a way for them to tap on the rear then the stand would be that much better.

I'm going to try to 3d print a holder for a Square tap reader to hang on the stand, I just haven't even researched if you can pair a bluetooth reader to the stand because one is built in already.

Hmm that does sound a bit awkward. Is there any particular reason you don't swivel the Stand? I believe you could pair a Square reader to the iPad that's in the Stand, but I'm not sure how that would affect other accessories like printers.

I just don't see how putting the customer in control and explaining it to them what they have to do gains me when I can take the card, tap, and print a receipt in like 2 seconds.  Square's speed is its strength.

I tried for 1/2 a day waiting a terminal but that is just way more steps too that don't need like tapping confirm order or whatever then bringing up the payment screen etc.  IF they could just tap at any point on that device while the transaction is being done that would be awesome, but I don't want them interacting or choosing options and slowing things down.  There is only 11 hours open and need to get 600+ customers cranked thru a few registers.

Plus I think customers are already fearing an employee spinning around a tablet in fear of the "no pressure" but actually high pressure tip screen.  I don't want them thinking for even a second there is going to be a tip me screen coming up.
