How to update your Community profile, change your avatar photo, and change your username

In this post, you'll learn how to update your Community profile, how to upload a real image of yourself as your profile avatar image (or choose an anonymous avatar), and how to change your Community username. 

Customizing your profile page is a great opportunity to connect with other members and promote your business. 

 

How to update your profile information

Your profile is visible to everyone who visits the Square Community. To build it out or make changes to your profile, follow these steps: 

1. Sign into the Community
2. Click on your username in the top righthand corner of the screen
3. Click 'My Settings'
4. Under the tab labelled 'PERSONAL' , click 'personal information'
5. In this section, add details like your name, your business name (company), describe your role at the business or enter your job title, location, and business website.

PRO TIP: use the 'biography' space to let other know your areas of expertise, your interests, or other info that would be useful to other members. Feel free to use this section to share the Square products that you need help with, or that you feel comfortable answering questions about. Text entered here will be visible on your profile page.

 Click Save and you're good to go!

How to change your avatar photo 

1. Sign into the Community
2. Click on your username in the top righthand corner of the screen
3. Click 'My Settings'
4. Click the tab labelled 'AVATARS'. 
5. You will see your current avatar where you can then upload your own image. We encourage you to upload a photo of yourself or your business as it will help you make more genuine connections in the Community. We have found that seeing real faces of our members brings us closer together.  Once uploaded, your avatar with automatically save, however, you will need to click 'SAVE AND CONTINUE' and 'SAVE' to move along.
6. If you don't upload a personal photo, then a colour+shape avatar will be automatically assigned to you based on the first letter of your username. 

 

How to update your Community username

1. Sign into the Community
2. Click on your username in the top righthand corner of the screen
3. Click 'My Settings'
4. Under the tab labelled 'PERSONAL' , click 'username'
5. From here, you can update your username. When done click on the button 'Change Username' and you'll be all set!

Please note: Usernames are first come, first served so the one you want may not be available. There is a 16 character limit.

 

 

Use profiles to learn about current Community members

If you hover your mouse over any avatar in the Community, a box will pop up with more information about that Community member, including their job title, website, their Community level, when they joined the Community, and the recent badges they've earned. 

From this pop up, you can also send the member a private message, or click View Profile to learn more about them, including their ‘bio’. You can also get an idea of how experienced they are with the Community by checking the number of threads they've authored, how many best answers they've been awarded, and how many likes they've received.
